The Ferret owned by its readers and writers. It has a unique ownership model designed to ensure that it remains independent as it grows.
It is a multi-stakeholder co-operative, with places for journalists, subscribers and independently nominated people reserved on the board. At the time of writing The Ferret had more than 2450 members - all of whom have a share in ownership of the cooperative.
Each year, the membership elect the Directors to the board, with the exception of the independent directors. Independent directors are appointed by the other directors and allow the organisation to bring in people with particular skills or view points.
