Today, student campaigning network People & Planet announced that Edinburgh Napier University was the topped ranked Scottish University in its tenth annual University League table.
The table ranks all UK universities on their environmental and social justice performance. Of the Scottish Universities Napier recived a 1st class award, alongside Glasgow Caledonian University.
According to the group, 5 Scottish Universities have made full or partial commitments to divest from fossil fuels, including the University of Glasgow, the University of Edinburgh, University of Abertay Dundee, Heriot-Watt University and most recently, the University of the West of Scotland, who committed to divest from fossil fuels last week.
Kevin McKinley, student campaigner with UWS People & Planet Group, said: “After over a year of campaigning, it is fantastic that UWS has decided to divest from the fossil fuel industry, the decision shows that UWS values its students’ views and that they are serious about changing into a more ethical, environmentally-friendly university.”
A recent Ferret investigation into Scottish University investment showed that many still hold a number of unethical investments.
