The Ferret Fact Service is now into its fourth month, and we’re planning to expand our content and contextualise our fact checks by including background “explainers” on the most important issues facing Scotland.
The idea is to take a deeper look at the contexts surrounding the claims we fact check. This means looking beyond the weekly news cycle to take into account the wider historical, social, and political landscapes that shape Scottish current affairs.
In our recent fact check on the Conservative-DUP deal, we trialled a shortened version of an “FFS explainer” on how the Barnett formula works, alongside the usual fact check. The full explainer can be found on the forum—tell us what you think works, what doesn’t, and how we can improve.
Do you think more in-depth explanation and analysis like this is a good idea? Would you like to see FFS develop more of this kind of content? Is there anything else you’d like to see us do? Let us know!
And, as ever, if you spot a claim you think we should be checking, contact us via Facebook or Twitter, post in our community forum or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
