Generally do not include reference to how old people are unless it is relevant to the story.

If you need to say how old someone is, do say:

  • a 31-year-old woman; a 31-year-old; 31 years old.

  • Bob Smith, 31.

Don’t:

  • Bob Smith (aged 31)
